Professor Rachel Batterham is Senior Vice President of Medical Innovation and External Engagement, Cardiometabolic Health at Eli Lilly and Company. She joined Lilly in 2023 following a 30-year career in clinical practice and academia, where she served as Professor of Obesity, Diabetes and Endocrinology at University College London (UCL) and Honorary Consultant at University College London Hospital NHS Foundation Trust (UCLH).
Professor Batterham is internationally recognised for her pioneering research identifying gut hormones as therapeutic targets for obesity and for her clinical expertise in the management of people living with obesity. She has contributed extensively to national and international obesity guidelines, serving on multiple guideline and consensus groups, including NICE, the European Association for the Study of Obesity (EASO), the International Federation for the Surgery of Obesity and Metabolic Disorders (IFSO), and the Lancet Commission on the Definition and Diagnosis of Clinical Obesity.
In 2022, she was awarded an OBE for services to people living with obesity, recognising more than 25 years of impact spanning research, clinical trials, and public health policy.

Professor John Wilding is a Professor of Medicine at the University of Liverpool, where he leads clinical research in obesity, diabetes and endocrinology. Since joining the university in 1996, following training in Southampton and London, he has combined clinical practice with research, leading specialist obesity services at Aintree University Hospital, a centre for obesity management designated by both the UK and European Associations for the Study of Obesity.  

Professor Wilding’s research focuses on the development and evaluation of treatments for obesity and type 2 diabetes, as well as adipocyte biology and metabolism. He has published more than 400 papers, book chapters and review articles, including clinical trials in diabetes and obesity. In addition to his research and clinical work, he has advised the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence and National Health Service England on aspects of obesity care. He is a former Chair of the UK Association for the Study of Obesity and a past President of the World Obesity Federation. 
 

Dr Santiago Tofé Povedano is a senior consultant and Head of Clinical Trials and Research in the Department of Endocrinology and Clinical Nutrition at Son Espases University Hospital and Associate Professor of Endocrinology at the School of Medicine, University of the Balearic Islands, Spain.

Dr Tofé has nearly two decades of experience in medical research as a clinical investigator and has led the Clinical Trials and Research Unit in the Department of Endocrinology since 2021, overseeing multiple phase 2 and phase 4 clinical trials in diabetes and cardiovascular medicine. He has dedicated a substantial part of his career to teaching; from 2002 to 2007, he served as Chief of Endocrinology Residents at Son Espases University Hospital, mentoring new fellows in this speciality. Since 2019, he has been involved in teaching medical students and has co-directed several PhD theses across two universities. He is the author or co-author of 85 national and international publications, including original research articles, reviews and clinical guidelines. 
 

Professor Alice Y.Y. Cheng is an endocrinologist at Trillium Health Partners and St. Michael’s Hospital and a Professor of Medicine at the University of Toronto, Canada. She has played a leading role in diabetes education and guideline development, contributing to the Diabetes Canada Clinical Practice Guidelines from 2003 to 2020 and serving as Chair of the 2013 guidelines.

Professor Cheng has also served as Chair of the Scientific Planning Committee for the American Diabetes Association Scientific Sessions (2023 and 2024) and was a member of the planning committees for the European Association for the Study of Diabetes Annual Meeting (2025 and 2026) and the International Diabetes Federation Congress (2025 and 2027). In addition, she is a co-host of Diabetes Care On Air, the official podcast of the journal Diabetes Care. In recognition of her contributions to the diabetes community, she has received the Outstanding Physician-Clinician in Diabetes Award from the American Diabetes Association, and the Charles H. Best Award and the Gerald S. Wong Service Award from Diabetes Canada.
 

Professor Gian Paolo Fadini is Full Professor of Endocrinology and Metabolism at the University of Padova and Director of the Division of Metabolic Diseases and Diabetology at the University Hospital of Padova, Italy. He also runs the Laboratory of Experimental Diabetology at the Venetian Institute of Molecular Medicine.

Professor Fadini’s research focuses on chronic and acute diabetic complications, stem cells in diabetes, vascular regeneration and wound healing, atherosclerosis, vascular calcification, metabolic syndrome and insulin resistance. His research has contributed to the understanding of how diabetes induces vascular damage and compromised endothelial repair. Building on this, he has moved to consider the bone marrow as a target of diabetic complications, and its role in regulating vascular stem cells and regeneration. In clinical diabetes, Professor Fadini has conducted studies using routinely accumulated clinical data to evaluate cardiovascular and renal outcomes and the real-world effectiveness of glucose-lowering therapies, including nationwide Italian studies. Professor Fadini serves as Associate Editor of Diabetologia and Diabetes Metabolism Research and Reviews and is a member of the editorial boards of Diabetes, Obesity and Metabolism, Cardiovascular Diabetology and the European Heart Journal. He has published more than 400 peer-reviewed articles. 
 

Professor Deborah Bade Horn, DO, MPH, MFOMA, is a Professor of Medicine and Surgery and Medical Director of the Center for Obesity Medicine and Metabolic Performance at McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston, where she also directs the Allison Family Foundation Clinical Fellowship in Obesity Medicine and Metabolism.

A globally recognised obesity medicine physician-scientist, Professor Horn’s work spans obesity biology, cardiometabolic disease, patient-centred outcomes, and GLP-1 and incretin-based therapies. She has served as an investigator and author across pivotal obesity and cardiovascular outcomes programmes, including SELECT, SURMOUNT, REDEFINE, ATTAIN, and LEAP, with research published in leading medical journals.

A former President and Chairman of the Board of the Obesity Medicine Association, Professor Horn is a sought-after global speaker and advocate for recognising obesity as a complex chronic disease requiring comprehensive, individualised care. 

Dr Neil Skolnik is a Professor of Family and Community Medicine at Sidney Kimmel Medical College of Thomas Jefferson University and Associate Director of the Family Medicine Residency Program at Jefferson Health Abington, Pennsylvania, USA. As an academic family physician, he sees patients and teaches residents and medical students in the family medicine residency programme at Jefferson Health Abington.

Dr Skolnik’s professional interests include diabetes, obesity, asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, exercise in medicine, coronary disease risk factor management and the medical humanities. He served on the Expert Panel Report-4 Working Group of the National Asthma Education and Prevention Program Coordinating Committee at the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute (NHLBI), which developed the 2020 NIH Asthma Guidelines. Dr Skolnik hosts and produces Diabetes Core Update, the American Diabetes Association's official monthly podcast reviewing key developments in diabetes research, as well as Diabetes Day by Day, a podcast for people living with diabetes. Dr Skolnik has written and edited six books, and has published more than 500 articles, columns, essays, poems, webinars and other works in both medical and lay literature. 
 

Professor Timo Müller is the Director of the Institute of Diabetes and Obesity at Helmholtz Munich and a Professor of Energy and Glucose Metabolism at Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich, Germany. Following his doctoral studies, he joined the Metabolic Disease Institute at the University of Cincinnati, USA, as a postdoctoral fellow. He subsequently led the Molecular Pharmacology Group at the Institute of Diabetes and Obesity at Helmholtz Munich, Germany. 

Professor Müller’s research focuses on the development and evaluation of novel unimolecular pharmacotherapies for the treatment of metabolic syndrome, particularly obesity and diabetes. He is part of an international team of scientists who pioneered the concept of GLP-1-based dual and triple receptor agonists for treating obesity and diabetes. He has published more than 200 scientific papers, including articles in Cell, Nature, Cell Metabolism, Nature Medicine and Nature Metabolism. 

Professor Barbara McGowan is a Consultant and Professor of Endocrinology and Diabetes at King’s College London. She also leads the Obesity, Diabetes and Endocrinology service at the Cleveland Clinic London. She is the Chief Medical Officer for Reset Health, which hosts the Roczen platform, a NICE approved digital weight management service.

Professor McGowan is an investigator for several clinical trials in gut hormone therapies for obesity and was awarded an NIHR/RCP/CRN prize in recognition of outstanding research within the NHS. She is a Board member for the Finance Committee for the International Society for Endocrinology and co-chairs EASO’s Obesity Task Force. She is the recipient of the 2024 KCL Faculty of Life Sciences and Medicine Research Impact on Society Award and the 2025 Outstanding Clinical Practitioner Award by the Society for Endocrinology.

Mr Joseph Nadglowski is President and CEO of the Obesity Action Coalition (OAC), a nonprofit organisation dedicated to elevating and empowering people affected by obesity through education, advocacy and support. He helped launch OAC alongside its three founders in 2005 and has led the organisation throughout its growth into a leading patient advocacy organisation.

With more than 30 years of experience in patient advocacy, public policy and education, Mr Nadglowski is a nationally and internationally recognised advocate for people affected by obesity. Drawing on his own lived experience with obesity and the experiences of OAC members, he works to ensure the patient voice is represented in decisions about obesity policy, research, treatment and care.

Mr Nadglowski is a leading advocate for expanding access to evidence-based obesity care and addressing weight bias and discrimination. He regularly brings the patient perspective to policymakers, regulators, researchers and healthcare leaders and increasingly collaborates with organisations and advocates around the world to elevate lived experience and improve obesity care globally.

He serves on the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine’s Roundtable on Obesity Solutions and is a graduate of the University of Florida.
